Song Joong-ki discusses Vincenzo season 2

Vincenzo, one of the hottest Korean dramas at the moment, is about an Italian mafia lawyer named Vincenzo. It stars Song Joong-ki as the titular Vincenzo Cassano, who’s also a consigliere for the mafia. Vincenzo ranks 6th in ratings among tvN dramas.

The beloved drama aired its last episode on 2nd May. Joong-ki shared his thoughts on his filming experience, the drama’s plot, his character, upcoming movie Bogota, and the possibility of Vincenzo season 2 in a post-drama interview on 3rd May.

Vincenzo’s cliffhanger ending left fans with unanswered questions, leading many to think that Vincenzo will likely have a 2nd season.

Joong-ki is glad that many viewers are looking forward to a 2nd season, but he mentioned that it’s unlikely to happen because there hasn’t been any discussion about it.

That doesn’t mean that we can’t hope for a season 2 of Vincenzo. Perhaps if many people keep asking for it, the production team will consider filming a 2nd season – fingers crossed.

Vincenzo is a drama that reflects a sad reality

Joong-ki feels that Vincenzo reflects society in real life. There are many people in the real world who are similar to the villains in the drama.

Regarding the character Vincenzo, Joong-ki said he initially felt sad that viewers have to support a villain like Vincenzo in order to see justice served in the drama. Vincenzo can be described as an anti-hero – he fights for justice without using morally correct methods. Vincenzo goes after the villains in the drama using his own morally dubious means.

When asked if he feels that the punishment for the villains is too severe, Joong-ki said that the villains deserve it. He believes that villains should be punished harshly for their evil deeds, and this should be the case in reality too.

Joong-ki thinks he’s lacking when it comes to comedic scenes

Joong-ki is not satisfied with his comedic scenes in Vincenzo, especially those of him speaking in Italian.

He felt that he could have practiced speaking in Italian more. He tried his best and practiced hard with his language teacher, but it wasn’t enough for him to perfect his pronunciation.

Nevertheless, his Italian-speaking scenes are hilarious and several Redditors have commented that Song Joong-ki’s Italian pronunciation was good.

Joong-ki had a great time filming Vincenzo

Joong-ki mentioned that filming action dramas is usually exhausting because of the hectic schedule and physically demanding scenes.

Experienced martial arts director Heo Myeong-haeng made filming more meaningful for Joong-ki because he believes that action dramas shouldn’t simply consist of intense action scenes – action scenes should also convey emotion.

He advised Joong-ki to express his emotions through his actions, and this helped him act more naturally.

He will resume filming Bogota, a movie set in Colombia

Similar to Vincenzo, Bogota is partially set outside of Korea.

Set in Colombia, Bogota is a crime thriller that stars Song Joong-ki and Lee Hee-joon. It is a movie about 2 men in their 30s who emigrate to Colombia from Korea in the 1990s, and they find themselves living in Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

The bulk of the movie was supposed to be filmed in Colombia, but the cast and crew had to fly back to Korea when the Covid-19 pandemic worsened last year. The filming has been paused since then.

Joong-ki revealed that filming will resume soon, but Bogota will be filmed in Korea instead.

Joong-ki is nominated for the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards

Joong-ki is one of the nominees for the “Best Actor” award at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, and he was nominated for his role in Vincenzo.

He said that he is happy about his nomination and will be attending the awards ceremony. However, he is rooting for Vincenzo’s director Kim Hee-won more than himself.

Kim Hee-won is one of the nominees for the “Best Director” award. She was nominated for directing Vincenzo, and is one of the few female directors in the Korean entertainment industry.

The 57th Baeksang Arts Awards will be held on 13th May, and will be airing live on JTBC at 9pm KST.

Vincenzo season 2 is not confirmed
