On 7th September, Hankook Ilbo, a Korean daily newspaper, confirmed the cast of an upcoming romance drama titled Twenty-Five Twenty-One. This is the first project Nam Joo-hyuk and Kim Tae-ri are working on together, and many fans are already looking forward to their onscreen chemistry.

A heart-warming youth drama

A drama that takes place from 1998 to the present, Twenty-Five Twenty-One focuses on the moving and uplifting memories of youth. The story revolves around Baek Yi-jin, a reporter played by Nam Joo-hyuk, who meets Na Hee-do, a fencing athlete played by Kim Tae-ri, at the Asian Games.

Hwa&Dam Pictures, the production company of Twenty-Five Twenty-One, said that this drama portrays youth as a time of both love and pain. More importantly, it highlights the chemistry and growth of five youths who share troubles, excitement, friendship and love.

Besides Nam Joo-hyuk and Kim Tae-ri, the confirmed cast of Twenty-Five Twenty One includes WJSN’s Bona, Choi Hyun-wook and Lee Joo-myung.

Kim Tae-ri will play Na Hee-do, a professional fencing athlete. Although the fencing team in her high school falls apart due to the IMF financial crisis, Hee-do’s charismatic and passionate nature pushes her to work towards becoming a national fencing athlete.

Nam Joo-hyuk will star as Baek Yi-jin, a reporter who delivers newspapers and works part-time at a book rental store in order to make ends meet. Yi-jin’s family suffers as a result of the IMF financial crisis, and he steps up to make a living.

WJSN’s Bona will take on the role of Go Yoo-rim, the youngest fencing gold medallist and Hee-do’s rival. As a professional fencer, Yoo-rim is nothing but bold and charming. But as soon as she takes off her fencing suit, she becomes an ordinary and adorable 18-year-old.

Choi Hyun-wook will play Moon Ji-woong, a social media influencer. He is a fashionista with a unique personality.

Lee Joo-myung will act as Ji Seung-wan, class president and top student in her high school. Although she seems like the model student, her heart is filled with rebellion. Seung-wan is also part of her high school’s broadcasting club where she shares concerns and troubles of youths.

Twenty-Five Twenty One will air in 2022

According to Hankook Ilbo, the highly anticipated drama will reportedly air in the first half of 2022.

Twenty-Five Twenty-One will be directed by Jung Ji-hyun, the director behind successful dramas such as Search: WWW, You Are My Spring and The King: Eternal Monarch. Director Jung is recognised for his sophisticated and detailed directing skills, and he will be reuniting with Kwon Do-eun, the screenwriter of Search: WWW, to produce one of the most anticipated projects of 2022.
