Since it was released over 100 years ago, Anne of Green Gables has garnered many global fans and is one of the most critically acclaimed novels. Following the life of Anne Shirley, the novel has led to the establishment of tourism spots worldwide that celebrate it and the life of its author, L.M. Montgomery.
Whether you’re a fan yourself, or just someone seeking the comfortable refuge of air-conditioning after a beach excursion at Yangyang, you’ll want to visit P.E.I Coffee. The cafe provides a unique experience with its various Anne of Green Gables paraphernalia and decorations inspired by the novel that is sure to make any fan squeal in excitement.
Homage to L.M. Montgomery and Anne of Green Gables

Right next to the toilet on the cafe’s first floor stands an L.M. Montgomery mural, with a bench underneath to fulfil your photo-taking needs. Even if you aren’t a fan, this majestic painting is sure to pique your interest in finding out more about this famed author.
The cafe’s allegiance towards her is even clearer once you realise that P.E.I in the name stands for Prince Edward Island, her hometown and where most of her stories are set.

Upon entering the cafe, you’ll be greeted with an 8m-high Anne of Green Gables-themed demitasse wall that serves as a backdrop behind the ordering counter. The effect is a slight vintage and quaint vibe reminiscent of the time period that Anne Shirley lived in.

You can find various Anne of Green Gables trinkets and decorations, such as commemorative plates and a wall of books written by L.M. Montgomery.

One of Yangyang’s calls to fame is their coastal areas that are prime for a relaxing beach vacation. If sandy beaches or salty seawater isn’t really your cup of tea but you still want to enjoy the seaside, P.E.I Coffee might just be the cafe for you.
P.E.I Coffee’s floors have high ceilings along with full-length glass windows, granting a panoramic view of the coastline right across the building it is situated in.

Head up to their rooftop seating for an even better view of the sea and the accompanying sea breeze for the perfect outdoor seaside experience. It can get windy, so remember to hold on to your hats when the sea breeze intensifies.

The rooftop is also a unique photozone as there’s a platform filled with water and a small area to stand on. From the correct angle, you can make it look like you’re standing on the sea. But let’s be real – with the beautiful sea as the backdrop, it’s hard to take a bad picture here.
Unique drinks & snacks

P.E.I Coffee requires that every guest order at least 1 drink when entering. Luckily, they serve some delicious and unique beverages, so it’s really more of a benefit than a rule.
Their most eye-catching drink is the Rainbow Ade (KRW7,500, ~USD5.45), where lemon powder and pomegranate syrup are layered into a colourful drink. The cafe also requests you to take photos for Instagram before mixing the layers up.

They also serve Einspanner (KRW7,500, ~USD5.45), an espresso served with chilled cream, if you prefer a warm drink with a touch of chilled sweetness.

Keeping with the Western heritage of L.M. Montgomery and Anne From Green Gables, P.E.I Coffee sells imported donuts (KRW4,000, ~USD2.90 each) from Europastry, a global bakery brand.
Getting to P.E.I Coffee
With its classy yet vintage decor, P.E.I Coffee’s dedication to Anne from Green Gables cannot be questioned. If you’re also a fan of that series or are now interested in it, head on over to the cafe the next time you’re in Yangyang.
We recommend taking a taxi to P.E.I Coffee, as there aren’t many buses that ply that area.
