MARVEL’s affinity for K-pop and SM Entertainment

This is not the first time that MARVEL has delved into the world of K-pop. In 2018, MARVEL created their first Korean superhero-cum-K-pop star, Luna Snow, for their mobile game titled “MARVEL Future Fight”. They even released two Korean tracks – I Really Wanna and Tonight – which were sung by Hyungseo, a former member of girl group Busters.
In April 2019, SM Entertainment’s first collaboration with MARVEL saw the release of MARVEL-themed merchandise for EXO-CBX – a sub-unit comprising Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin.

In Nov 2019, Aaron Stewart-Ahn, the lead writer of MARVEL’s Thor, wrote a Thor issue featuring an intergalactic K-pop concert inspired by his own experience of attending an EXO concert.

After fans got excited at the prospect of EXO appearing in a MARVEL comic, he had to post another tweet to dispel the rumour.

Nonetheless, it showed how K-pop had left a strong impression on him, making it spill over to his work at MARVEL.
SM Entertainment’s founder, Lee Soo-man, has assured fans that this collaboration is but the start of more co-branded content to come, and we can expect to see more SM artists X MARVEL collaborations in the future.
SuperM X MARVEL collection, the first of more to come
The SuperM X MARVEL collection has fueled our imaginations of what’s to come when the world of K-pop and the MARVEL universe merges. But for now, it’s time to be Thanos and snap those goods off the shelves before it’s too late.
