Kim Hye-jun wins Best New Actress at 58th Baeksang Awards


The Best New Actress award category at the 58th Baeksang Awards was highly competitive and unforeseeable as all five nominees proved their acting chops in their respective roles.

Despite the intense competition, Kim Hye-jun, who starred in Inspector Koo, was named the Best New Actress at the 58th Baeksang Awards. 

The award ceremony was hosted by actor Park Bo-gum, actress Bae Suzy, and comedian Shin Dong-yup.

Kim Hye-jun was nominated for her role in Inspector Koo, a comedy drama that follows an investigator and university student. 

The actress took on the role of Song Yi-kyung, a university student by day, and theatrical performer by night.

Yi-kyung is an intelligent and quick-witted student. But she has a hidden identity that no one knows of – she’s a serial killer.

One day, she plots a murder case in the hopes of defrauding her own insurance money. However, the murder case takes place inadvertently, and her initial plan goes haywire.

As expected, Kim Hye-jun was up against intense competition for the Best New Actress award. The nominees were as follows:

  • Lee Yoo-mi in All Of Us Are Dead
  • Jung Ho-yeon in Squid Game
  • Cho Yi-hyun in All Of Us Are Dead

Lee Yeon was nominated for her role in Juvenile Justice, a Netflix series about juvenile delinquency and troubled teenagers.

The actress played Baek Seong-woo, one of the juvenile delinquents who was involved in the Yeonhwa Elementary School Murder Case. 

Fun fact: Lee Yeon took on the role of a male character in Juvenile Justice.

Lee Yoo-mi was nominated for her role in All Of Us Are Dead, a zombie apocalypse series that follows a group of high school students in their journey of sacrifice and survival.

The actress took on the role of Lee Na-yeon, a self-centred individual who is indifferent to others.

You may also recognise her from Squid Game, also known as the epoch-making Netflix series that moved a global audience.

Jung Ho-yeon was nominated for her role in Squid Game, a Netflix series talked about by everyone on the Internet in 2021.

Squid Game follows 456 participants who join a survival game in the hopes of paying their debts off. They put their lives on the line by playing life-and-death games – but there can only be one winner.

Jung Ho-yeon took on the role of Kang Sae-byeok, a North Korean defector who participates in the survival game for her family.

Finally, Cho Yi-hyun was nominated for her role in All Of Us Are Dead. She took on the role of Choi Nam-ra, a hostile and unfriendly class president.

She’s the epitome of character development as she learns to look after not only herself, but for the people around her.

The actress was well-loved for her impressive acting skills as well as her chemistry with Park Solomon in All Of Us Are Dead.
