The secret is out – Selena Gomez has officially confirmed that she’s the mystery artist who will be working with BLACKPINK on their next single. This comes after weeks of anticipation since BLACKPINK teased a secret collaboration.

On 23 July, the quartet received attention when they unveiled a poster with the caption “BLACKPINK New Single Release: Featuring (?)” plastered across it.

Fan theories & YG’s response
Fans quickly flocked to Twitter to discuss the possibilities. Many named Ariana Grande as a possible candidate. The singer was recently featured on Lady Gaga’s album, Chromatica, which BLACKPINK also participated in.

Furthermore, it’s public knowledge that BLACKPINK and Ariana Grande are on friendly terms and have even been spotted hanging out together. However, Korean media outlets later reported that Selena Gomez was the group’s surprise guest instead.

In response to the rumours, an official representative from YG Entertainment told fans to wait for the official announcement.

The hashtag “#SelPink” immediately began trending on Instagram and Twitter, as BLINKS all around the world erupted in celebration.
Ice cream concept for the new single
Fans also started speculating about what the song’s concept might be. Some noticed that the members of BLACKPINK had all coincidentally posted about ice cream recently. On top of that, even Gomez herself shared a photo of her fridge filled with ice cream.

Countdown to 28th August
For now, fans will have to wait patiently until YG Entertainment releases official teaser videos. The good thing is that the song is set to drop on 28th August at 1PM KST, which is only 2 weeks away.
