Lee You-mi From Squid Game Wins Emmy, Is The First Korean Actor To Win The Award

On 5th September 2022, the budding actress Lee You-mi who proved her acting chops in the hit series Squid Game and All Of Us Are Dead went back home with the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series. 

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards marks an epoch-making event for South Korea as Lee You-mi is officially the first actor to be given the award in an individual acting category.

Despite playing a supporting role in Squid Game, Lee You-mi moved the hearts of millions with her brilliant acting as Ji-yeong, otherwise known as Player 240, in episode 6 titled Gganbu.

In the drama series, she portrayed a jaded and hopeless individual with no purpose to live. In addition, she showed off seamless chemistry with Jung Ho-yeon who took on the role of Kang Sae-byeok.

For the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, Lee You-mi was nominated for the Outstanding Guest Actress Award In A Drama Series. Lo and behold, the actress emerged as the winner despite facing fierce competition.

The award was indubitably hard-earned as Lee You-mi had to compete alongside a pool of talented actresses. They include Martha Kelly from Euphoria, Marcia Gay Harden from The Morning Show, and Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan, and Harriet Walter from Succession.

Upon receiving the award, Lee You-mi squealed with excitement, and expressed her gratitude to the director of Squid Game, her fellow cast members, and her supportive fans around the world.

Receiving the Emmy Award is, without a doubt, a milestone in an actor’s life. And Lee You-mi deserves all the limelight, as she’s proved that no role is ever too small to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of the audience.
