The 57th Baeksang Arts Awards started on an exciting note as the winner of the “Best Actor” award was the 1st to be announced. When the nominees for this award were revealed, many were debating on who would win because all of them were strong contenders.
There was a tense moment as the presenter opened the envelope to read the name of the 1st winner of the night – Lee Do-hyun. Although the other nominees have their own merits, we can agree that it was a well-deserved win.

The visibly nervous Do-hyun went in the wrong direction when he was making his way to the stage to receive his award, and had to be redirected.
Overwhelmed with emotions, Do-hyun apologised for crying before he even started his speech. He continued to say that he did not expect to win because the other nominees for the award were very strong.
Throughout his speech, he was stuttering and trying not to cry. If you teared up watching him give his speech, you’re not alone.
We look forward to seeing him star in more dramas. Read more about Do-hyun’s win here.

Lee Do-hyun appeared on stage once more that night, but this time he was singing a touching duet with veteran singer Choi Baek-ho.
The special performance was titled To You Who Overcame Winter, and the emotional song was sung to comfort those who have been struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This was Do-hyun’s first singing performance. Needless to say, we were very excited to see him singing.

Last year, Oh Jung-se won the “Best Supporting Actor” award at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for his role in the drama When the Camellia Blooms.
This year, he was back to present the same award. At the same time, he was also one of the nominees for the award.
Jung-se opened the envelope to read out the winner’s name, but it hilariously turned out to be his own. He won the award for his role as Moon Sang-tae in It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.
Looking a little flustered, he walked over to the award and took it by himself, as the audience clapped enthusiastically.

Up against Moon Se-yoon, Shin Dong-yup, Yoo Jae-suk, and Jo Se-ho, few would have expected Lee Seung-gi, who’s the youngest of the lot, to win the “Best Entertainer” award – but he did.
As the nominees were all well-known entertainers, the competition was stiff for this award. Seung-gi won the award for his outstanding performances in Master in the House and Busted Season 3.
He has proven himself to be a well-rounded celebrity who can act, sing, and do well in variety shows.

Bong Joon-ho, director of Oscar-winning film Parasite, was the presenter for the “Best Film” award. Parasite won the same award at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards last year.
This year, Samjin Company English Class won the “Best Film” award.

This was one of the most significant moments of the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards as receiving an award from the director of an Oscar-winning film is a great honour.
If you have yet to watch Samjin Company English Class, do include it on your to-watch list.

The Daesang award was the last to be presented as it’s the biggest award of the Baeksang Arts Awards.
Nominees were not revealed for this award. The internal panel of the awards show decides who should win it.
After a tense moment of waiting for the presenter to open the envelope, Yoo Jae-suk was announced as the winner of the Daesang award.
As Jae-suk is one of the most iconic celebrities in South Korea, we were not surprised that he won the most esteemed award of the ceremony. We look forward to seeing more of Jae-suk in variety shows.
Being nominated for the Baeksang Arts Awards is already an honour, so don’t feel frustrated if your favourites didn’t win. Instead of getting upset with the results, let’s sincerely congratulate the winners for their hard work.
The awards ceremony was definitely memorable in many ways, but these 6 best 57th Baeksang Awards moments really made an impact. We enjoyed watching it, and we are happy for the winners and nominees.
