In a meat haven like South Korea, meatless options can be hard to find. Nongshim, the best-selling ramen noodle brand in the country, is slated to open a vegan restaurant, right in the heart of Seoul.

Promising ambitions from the restaurant

Nongshim first revealed their plans to launch a vegan restaurant on 15th December 2021. According to the brand, they will be introducing a total of 20 new menu items, including appetisers, platters, burgers, steaks, pasta, side dishes, and desserts.

On 16th February 2022, Nongshim announced that they had decided to name their new vegan restaurant “Forest Kitchen”. It was set to open in Lotte World Mall, Jamsil, in April 2022, but it’s since been delayed till May 2022.

The restaurant aims to offer a menu that incorporates health and nature, and to provide personal rest to customers. Nongshim’s menu is created to encourage customers to contribute to the conservation efforts of our environment.

Nongshim has appointed Kim Tae-hyung as the head chef of the restaurant. The chef, who graduated from The Culinary Institute of America and had worked at a Michelin star restaurant in New York previously, has expressed his desire to create a harmonious combination of menus from global restaurants and vegan food.

In 2021, Nongshim released a vegan food line called “Veggie Garden”. This line currently offers 18 meat-free products, ranging from plant-based meat alternatives to vegan sauces, and even vegan tteokbokki (spicy rice cake).

Nongshim to open a new vegan restaurant

With Nongshim opening up a new vegan restaurant in May 2022, diners can soon look forward to more delicious dishes and inclusive eateries that cater to vegan and vegetarian dietary requirements.

This spells good news for people who have a meat-free diet, or even those attempting to join the green movement.
