Every year, the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) hosts Halal Restaurant Week to cater to Muslim tourists by promoting Muslim-friendly restaurants. Last year, the event was brought online for the first time, due to the ongoing pandemic. As the pandemic has yet to abate, the event will be held online for a second time in 2021.

According to the press release, KTO aims to promote Korean tourism and make Korea a Muslim-friendly destination through Halal Restaurant Week. The organisation also hopes to raise food-related concerns that Muslim tourists may have while visiting the country.
Besides getting info on halal eateries, attendees will also get to receive discount coupons of KRW3,000 (~USD2.57), which can be used in 150 participating restaurants.

The event isn’t just about food. Influencers such as Blimey, a Korean Youtube channel that covers Malaysian culture, and Jannahkorea, a Korean beauty and lifestyle YouTuber, will hold an offline talk.
Several influencers, whose identities have yet to be revealed, will be sharing their videos on Korea’s tourist attractions and restaurants during the opening ceremony. These videos will then be uploaded on KTO’s YouTube and TikTok channels.

KTO will produce 10 Halal TV episodes to offer Muslim tourists a virtual travel experience. From 1st September onwards, one episode will be uploaded each week on KTO’s YouTube channel, for a total of 10 weeks.

The theme of the first Halal TV video is Unboxing Korea. It will cover famous Korean tourist attractions and restaurants that Muslim tourists can visit. Bundung Oppa, also known as Indonesia’s most well-known Korean YouTuber, will be part of Unboxing Korea.
The second video, Korean Halal Food Cooking Class, will introduce a variety of halal Korean food recipes. Back by popular demand, Korean Halal Food Cooking Class will be hosted by Chef Choi Kwang-ho.
Since 2015, Halal Restaurant Week has been hosted annually by KTO. Although the event will be held online due to the ongoing pandemic, it provides an insightful experience for Muslim tourists who plan to visit Korea nevertheless.
