Cafe Pepper: A European-style Cafe That Specialises In Gluten-free Crumble Cakes & Pound Cakes

Cafe Pepper in Seoul

Cafes in Korea are known for their aesthetically pleasing interiors and food, but cafe-hopping can be worrisome for those who cannot stomach gluten in their desserts. Cafe Pepper offers a solution to this problem with their low-gluten and gluten-free desserts.

Gluten-free desserts

Cafe Pepper specialises in gluten-free desserts that are made with rice flour instead of wheat flour.

Though not all of their offerings are completely gluten-free, they are still much lower in gluten compared to confectionaries you’d get elsewhere. But not to worry – their low-gluten and gluten-free items are all clearly labelled accordingly.

“GF” stands for “gluten-free” and “LG” stands for “low gluten”.

Wide variety of sweet treats

While Cafe Pepper is most well-known for their assortment of sliced cakes, they also have a big array of desserts available.

In fact, the cafe’s signature feature is its dessert display table, where the treats are laid out like a buffet.

Chilled sliced cakes are placed in a glass display next to the counter.

The cafe offers a myriad of bakes such as scones, tarts, cookies, crumble cakes, pound cakes, and brownies.

Yoghurt bowls made with granola, Greek yoghurt, seasonal fruits, and honey are also available.

A slice of cake or a piece of dessert costs around KRW7,000 (~USD5.54) to KRW8,000 (~USD6.34), which can be more costly than most desserts in other cafes.

But budget-conscious folks need not worry as the cafe also offers more affordable options such as their scones, which range from KRW4,500 (~USD3.64) to KRW5,000 (~USD4.04).

Customers who want to try a bit of everything can order a cake assortment, which contains 8 slices of cake in 8 different flavours for KRW56,000 (~USD44.36).

There are seasonal specials – last Christmas, the cafe rolled out treats such as cakes in the shape of a Santa hat, a Christmas tree, and even reindeers.

For special occasions, customers can customise a whole cake with greetings written in icing. Birthday candles can be made available with each order if requested.

The interior of the cafe is European-style inspired with an overall neutral colour scheme.

The cafe uses wooden and wicker furniture, wide white windows, and bistro chairs and stools that remind us of outdoor cafes in France.

The fake fireplace in one corner of the cafe is a particularly popular photo spot – you won’t miss it as there’s a vintage mirror hanging above it, surrounded by brick walls and fake green plants.

What further adds to the cosiness and rustic aesthetic of the cafe is a louvred cabinet with cups and mugs bearing the cafe’s trademark logo.

The interior of the cafe is decorated with plenty of fake hanging vines, potted plants, and vintage lampshades, enveloping customers in a warm and comfortable atmosphere.
