The “Best New Actress” award category at the 57th Baeksang Awards had stiff competition, and 2 out of 5 actresses starred in dramas that were also tipped for the “Best Drama” award. Ultimately, Park Ju-hyun, who starred in Extracurricular, was named the “Best New Actress” at the 57th Baeksang Awards.
The award ceremony was hosted by actress Bae Suzy and comedian Shin Dong-yup, and broadcasted live on JTBC, a Korean cable channel.

Park Ju-hyun was nominated for her role in Extracurricular, a Netflix series that revolves around a top student who runs a prostitution business, and a rich girl who finds out about the former’s side hustle.
Park Ju-hyun starred as Bae Gyu-ri, who comes from a wealthy family. She finds out about the illegal prostitution ring run by her classmate, Oh Ji-soo, and wants a slice of the pie.

Park Gyu-young was nominated for her role in Sweet Home, a post-apocalyptic horror drama. The story revolves around a group of survivors trapped in Green Home, a run-down residential building, as deadly monsters try to get in. Sweet Home is based on a webtoon by Kim Kan-bi and Hwang Young-chan, and it was released exclusively on Netflix.
Park Gyu-young took on the role of Yoon Ji-soo, a bassist who moves into the building after her boyfriend’s suicide.
Choi Sung-eun was nominated for her role in Beyond Evil, a thriller drama that’s centred on a pair of detectives in the rural town of Manyang. One’s a man who was falsely accused of his sister’s murder 20 years ago, while the other is hellbent on nabbing the serial killer who has been terrorising the town for the past 2 decades.
Choi Sung-eun played the role of Yoo Jae-yi, a young woman who runs a butcher shop. Jae-yi’s mother went missing years ago, and she’s been stuck in Manyang, waiting for her mother’s return ever since.

Kim Hyun-soo was nominated for her role in The Penthouse: War in Life, a melodrama revolving around a group of uber-rich folks, conspiracies, murder, and classical singing.
Kim Hyun-soo played the role of Bae Ro-na, a gifted singer who comes from a poor single-parent family. Her mother, who was a talented soprano herself, had her dreams crushed when she had her throat slit by a classmate. Like her mother, Bae Ro-na found herself discriminated against, and someone even made an attempt on her life.
Lee Joo-young was nominated for her role in Times, a thriller drama. The plot involves 2 passionate reporters, communication from the future, and the death of the South Korean president.
Lee Joo-young played Seo Jung-in, a reporter in the year 2020. She’s the daughter of the South Korean president, and in order to prevent the death of her father, she reaches out to Lee Jin-woo, a reporter in the year 2015.
